These sessions are open to adults.

Session 1-1:30-2:20pm:  COMBAT HATE: A DIGITAL MEDIA LITERACY WORKSHOP
This workshop equips students with tools to identify and critically analyze harmful media, resist online hate, and develop a positive social media presence. Focusing on safety and empowerment for young digital citizens, students discuss their own experiences with social media and online hate. Using tablet computers, students apply the Center for Media Literacy’s Five Key Questions to examine curated examples of online hate in small groups. The workshop also covers the consequences of online hate and the concept of a “digital footprint.”

Session 2-2:30-3:20 pm  FACT or FICTION? (Digital Media Literacy Workshop)
This digital media literacy workshop helps students critically evaluate images and articles to determine their authenticity. Using tablet computers, students play a “Fact or Fiction” game, assessing the accuracy of presented information. Facilitators lead a discussion on the distinctions between fact, opinion, bias, and propaganda, exploring the motivations behind the creation of misleading images and articles.
